January 30, 2005	Dragon Boat Festival on the Brisbane River. I have always wondered if I am the only Chinese who is constantly confused about when Lunar New Year is each year, since the Lunar Calendar is always out of sync with the western calendar. This year, the Brisbanites seem to have remembered it better than me. Even in the last couple of years, the oriental influence, particularly the Chinese celebrations, have become quite popular in Queensland. We Asians are really taking root in this dynamic cultural melting pot.
January 22, 2005	在澳洲買新房與香港最大的不同是有個很長的執漏期，而且發展商對於執漏非常認真，推卸責任的情況比較少見。我以前在香港買過新樓，而且還是香港數一數二的發展商，覺得執漏過程比較隨便，工作人員的態度也不怎麼好。 這裡的過程是這樣的。從入住到上繳執漏項目之間有三個月，你可以住在裡面慢慢發現缺點。上繳項目清單後，發展商必須保証完全執行所有項目，並沒有時間限制。等到發展商執漏完畢，然後由買方逐項對照接收認可後發展商的責任才算完成。工程人員上來補修的時候可以預約時間，我也可以把單位鑰匙留在公寓管理經理那裡，讓他幫我監督。執漏人員不僅態度非常友善可親，他們在執行工作的時候更加幫我指出一些我自己都沒有看出的問題，完全站在顧客角度看問題，令我十分感動。		網上英語教師 英文
January 18, 2005	This is a landmark restaurant on the Brisbane river that is located right on the river bank across from my apartment. I have been looking at it every day since I moved in, so today, to quench my curiosity, I took the train to Milton to check it out. Milton is a trendy suburb right across the river from me, and apparently quite big on the restaurant scene. Here is the offcial link of Oxley on the River: http://www.oxleys.com.au/default.asp It seems like a touristy place. No doubt, the dining view is quite spectacular, especially at night. However, the menu is not exactly my cup of tea, so I guess I will just keep staring at it from the other side instead of dining there.
January 12, 2005	今年的氣候非常奇怪，可能是因為大氣污染而造成全球氣溫上升（global warming)，澳洲的夏季高溫也屢創紀錄。但是昆士蘭比較幸運，悉尼、墨爾本的夏天都熬熱異常，然而我們的地理位置雖然更加接近赤道，夏天到並不比平時熱多少。但是澳洲的陽光非常猛烈，在夏天的時候不擦太陽油上街沒有幾天就會曬黑。曬黑倒是小事，澳洲人得皮膚癌的比例全球最高，所以在皮膚癌的研究治療方面也最先進。
January 6, 2005	我這幾天在到處買眼鏡。澳洲的醫療保險非常完善，居然還包括每年一付眼鏡，可報100-200澳元左右，視乎眼鏡的種類與價格。所以每到年尾，所有的眼鏡舖就會打出促銷廣告：use it or lose it，因為每年的眼鏡保險額不用的話就會喪失，所以澳洲人的眼鏡五花八門，款式新穎，因為都是包括在整體醫療保險中，不用就浪費了。
