April 29, 2004	可以在哪裡吃美味的中餐？總之不要在中國城。在澳洲，可口的中餐都不在中國城，那是旅客的遊覽點。因為中國城的人口組成都是老華僑，在澳洲定居了三四十年，而且中國城的品流較為復雜，環境也不是很衛生。80年代開始，抵澳的港台新移民都在其他市郊開設飯館，帶來我們熟悉的港台式新穎烹調方法，而這些市郊就漸漸成為新的華人聚集據點，商場、食店完全照搬港台最風行的模式，環境、居民質素都符合較高的要求。 在墨爾本，吃中餐就要去Box Hill，在悉尼，可以去Chatswood，來到布里斯本，就要去Sunnybank。這些地方都被澳洲人稱為the unofficial new chinatowns。
April 25, 2004	Today is the Anzac Day, a sacred day for Australia. It celebrates a noble defeat, not a victory, of the Australian and New Zealand troops in 1915 on the Gallipoli Peninsula of the Turkish Aegean coast. Australia and New Zealand were a part of the British allies fighting against the Central Powers comprising Germany, Turkey and Austria-Hungary. It is interesting that Australians always have the compassion to make heroes of failures, casting aside judgement simply based on who won and who lost. I salute the Australians for this wonderful attitude.
April 20, 2004	What else are special in Queensland apart from the Great Barrier Reef, Gold Coast and koala santuary? Public toilet. I am not kidding here, Queensland's public toilets are the cleanest I have seen in my life. I was once very impressed with public toilets in Singapore, Tokyo, and Seattle, but they just fall short in comparison to Queensland. There are two places where you can adore and worship these ultra-clean public toilets. On the commuter train from Brisbane to Nerang (connection to Gold Coast), the train toilet is so huge that one can literally dance inside, everything in the toilet is sensor-based and kept spick and span. Another impressive example is the public toilet at the food court below Queen Street Mall, there are even ultra-violet lights installed to help kill germs. April 15, 2004	我在這裡再介紹一些澳洲起源，但是已經世界通行的英語口語： Kiwi - 紐西蘭人，因為紐西蘭以奇異果著稱 fair go - 公平機會 down under - 澳洲自嘲為down under，因為位於整個北半球的下面，現在英語中down under就是澳洲的暱稱 no sweat - no worries，沒問題 veggie - vegetables, 蔬菜 beats me - I don't know，把我給問倒了。比如別人問你:"Mate, do you know where the bus goes?" 你才到澳洲，根本不清楚，就會回答:"Sorry，beats me."
April 12, 2004	20年前，澳洲英語比現在難聽得多，因為通訊、傳媒沒有現在那麼發達，偏處一隅的澳洲人可以自由自在地發揮土著英語。但是今天的澳洲英語已經開始向美國式英語靠近，發音沒有那麼刁鑽，而且反過來影響美國式英語。 比如，mate是澳洲人稱呼對方的用語，適用於男性，good day mate是常用的招呼句。但是現在美國人也開始沿用。No worries的意思是沒問題，別在意，現在你在美國電影中也可以聽到這樣的用法。其實語言從來不是一成不變，任何語種都是個吸收、淘汰、融合的過程。
April 6, 2004	我公寓附近有一個商場，地下幾乎都是日本拉面店小食店，因為日本年輕一代流行去英語國家遊學一年半載學英語，而昆士蘭州是他們的熱點之一。這家商場一到了星期五晚上，座無虛設，滿耳朵都是日語。我去過那裡吃拉面，覺得比日本、香港吃的差了一點，不過這已經是日本學生們最好的選擇了。 昆士蘭州可能是世界上少數幾個地方你能看到日本的廉價勞力。在凱恩斯（Cairns)，各大酒店收拾房間的清潔工都是在當地學英文，半工半讀的日本人。
April 2, 2004	在香港的時候去賽馬會學過一課高爾夫球入門，8人上課，8小時總共要花1700港幣，每小時212港幣。這兩天我在布里斯本附近找高爾夫球教練，打算在今年春季（10月）時重新開始練習。這裡教練一對一教授的價格是300港幣一小時。賽馬會的公眾球場350港幣18洞，在香港已經很便宜了。昆士蘭由於常年陽光充沛，是澳洲的高球勝地，這裡的公眾和私人球場，除了一些世界知名的俱樂部，少有超過180港幣18洞。很多日本人來昆士蘭一年，找個貼身教練，專攻高爾夫球，希望成為職業球員。如果對這項運動有興趣，有一個月的時間，專程來澳州上高爾夫球訓練營，計算機票住宿在內比在香港大陸還便宜呢。
